We are looking for a Lead Data Engineer to help build and operate large-scale data systems powering analytics, experimentation, and live operations for our games. You’ll work on high-volume event pipelines, shape our data platform architecture, and partner closely with game, data science, and backend teams.
This is a high-impact role with real ownership over technical direction

What You’ll Do

• Design, build, and operate large-scale event ingestion and processing pipelines handling billions of events.
• Shape and evolve our data platform architecture (lakehouse, warehouse, OLAP).
• Improve performance, reliability, and cost efficiency across storage, compute, and query layers.
• Build high-quality data models and aggregations for analytics and experimentation.
• Define best practices for data quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.
• Partner closely with game teams to turn data needs into practical technical solutions.
• Mentor other data engineers and provide technical leadership.
• Collaborate with data science and backend teams to enable advanced analytics and ML use cases.

What We’re Looking For

Experience

• 6+ years of experience in data engineering or a related field.
• Strong experience with large-scale batch and streaming event pipelines.
• Proven ownership of production data platforms at scale.

Technical Skills

• Expert-level experience with Apache Spark (batch & streaming, performance tuning, memory management).
• Strong experience with Apache Iceberg (table design, partitioning, compaction, schema evolution).
• Solid experience with Apache Airflow (DAGs at scale, backfills, retries).
• Deep experience with OLAP databases such as ClickHouse, BigQuery, Redshift, Snowflake, or similar.
• Excellent SQL and strong understanding of query optimisation, partitioning, and materialised views.
• Strong knowledge of modern data warehouse and lakehouse architectures.
• Deep understanding of AWS data services, including S3, EC2, EMR, EKS, Glue, Athena, IAM, and cost optimisation

Domain Experience (Bonus)

• Experience working with game analytics, including player events, telemetry, experimentation, and monetisation.
• Experience with high-volume, low-latency event data.
  Exposure to real-time or near real-time analytics.
• Experience with A/B testing frameworks or ML feature pipelines.
• Experience deploying, operating, and scaling open-source BI tools such as Apache Superset, Metabase, or similar, including user management, performance tuning, and production operations.
